Tea Time in the Woods

We ventured into the Teapot Hill in BC’s Fraser Valley recently, and I was awed by the simple yet playful idea of adorning the woods with teapots and teacups. I’ve read about the place before we drove over, but there still was the feeling of wonder and a tiny bit of … unease? It was getting close to nighttime, the trail getting what’s little left of the summer twilight. Save for a lady with her dog at the parking lot, we were on our own. It feels as if we have interrupted forest beings in the middle of their tea time, that any moment one would emerge from behind the thicket and present themselves friendly or hostile.

Your Prompt: Start a story with the setting inspired by the photos above. Who are the characters you imagine having tea in the forest? Or make your own story behind this unusual arrangement.
Quick Tip
Creative juxtaposition or playful contrast can help you come up with new ways of describing things, rather than relying on familiar metaphors. Think “like a teapot abandoned in the forest,” or “a billionaire offered a bag of drugstore gummy bears.” The possibilities are endless!
About Writing Desk
Years ago, I gave up blogging for good. But I changed my mind and here we are. Aside from maintaining a consistent writing practice, my goal is to build a live space outside social media for content that supports the creative process, free of mindless, addictive, and AI-generated distractions.
May your visits here be frequent but brief. The idea is to offer something that will light a spark, not distract from your writing. For this reason, I don’t post Writing Desk on social media. Thanks for stopping by!

“In time, I figured out how to talk about all the things Robert cared about. Golf, tennis, boating, Texas sports teams, luxury vacation spots, fine wines, and rare liquor. My knowledge was shallow, but it was enough to sound like I knew what I was talking about—which is all most people need anyway.”
