Taking a Breather

I write this during a busy period: editing submissions for an anthology, revising and pitching my own manuscript, preparing for upcoming consults. All of these outside my day job. There is the urge to complain, but I shouldn’t. There have been a time, not so long ago, when I wasn’t even sure I could call myself a writer. Now, with a modest list of published works and being trusted with other writers’ words, there’s no reason to second-guess.
Taking breaks and getting good sleep have become real priorities. I take walks—this post’s featured photo was taken at a park near where I live. I don’t cram my schedule with deadlines. I make time for zoning out.
This blog, I’m happy to say, doesn’t feel entirely like work. Writing here feels like decorating around one’s living room; it falls somewhere between chore and play. I hope you’re enjoying this space as I am.

Your Prompt: There are a few familiar phrases used to describe how a person sleeps (e.g., like a log, like a baby). Come up with a new phrase using a character in your work.
Quick Tip
Review your sentences. Do they vary in length and structure? Read them aloud; if your rhythm and intonation sound repetitive, revise.
About Writing Desk
Years ago, I gave up blogging for good. But I changed my mind and here we are. Aside from maintaining a consistent writing practice, my goal is to build a live space outside social media for content that supports the creative process, free of mindless, addictive, and AI-generated distractions.
May your visits here be frequent but brief. The idea is to offer something that will light a spark, not distract from your writing. For this reason, I don’t post Writing Desk on social media. Thanks for stopping by!

Found Words
“…that they were at peace at last, the two of them, and her tired body at rest; her broken body set free at last from the brutal pranks of the earth—from the trap of a May night, from the snare of summer, from the terrible silver nets of the moon.”
