Possibilities

Proud to announce that I recently finished writing my second novel. It’s time to find it a home, find the people who will see what was once just in my mind’s eye. It’s much different from Cine Star–that’s all I can say for now. I’ll cherish this time, when the work exists but not out in the world yet. When I can bask in the private self-satisfaction that I really can finish a book, i.e., the debut novel is not a flash in the pan. I’m ready for the yearning and anticipation that could stretch for years. Life keeps us busy but it’s the possibilities that keep us really living. There’ll be revisions of chapters, tweaking of the pitch. Second-guessing my talent. The debut novel and the other stories taught me patience and grit.

Your Prompt: Interview the characters in your work in progress to get ideas on how to move the story forward. Be a curious stranger, not their all-knowing creator. Ask them about what’s going on with their lives, what’s their take on the events (the plot). Write a scene based on what you learn.

Quick Tip
Rereading your draft for the nth time? Pick a random chapter and read it backwards. This gives you a fresh perspective as you engage the work on a sentence level. Repeat until you’ve gone through the entire manuscript. For short stories, read the paragraphs in random order. Happy revising!
